Dreams.  Why do we dream?  When people dream, they normally forget everything after 20 minutes upon waking.  If you’re anything like me you’ve had some bizarre dreams, funny dreams, colorful dreams and emotional dreams… do they mean anything?  Or are they just figments of our subconscious?  Everyone has their own opinion, but I believe that our dreams can have special meaning.

The Bible has a lot to say about dreams.  I’ve been having several vivid dreams lately so I decided to re-read a couple books on dream interpretation from a Biblical perspective.  These books explain how in the Bible, there were times God used dreams to bring a message to His people and He still speaks to us today through our dreams and visions.  “In the last days,” God says, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.” ~Acts 2:17   I recently listened to the audiobook “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus” by Nabeel Qureshi.  The author himself did the narration so he was essentially telling his story about his powerful transformation from Islam to Christianity.  Not only was it compelling, but the role of a dream he had played a pivotal part in him coming to Christ.

Through all of this, I was reminded to write down my dreams see if there’s any meaning behind them.  After several days, I’ve come to find that there indeed IS a pattern behind what is happening in my dream life and waking life.  Many times the symbols in my dreams pinpoint specific things in my life I need to address or are confirmations that God is with me and I’m right where He wants me to be.

Dream 2

Last week, in my dream there was a little white dog walking alongside me.  The dog went wherever I went… if I walked upstairs, so did the dog.  If I strolled across the yard, the dog padded along with me.  It was as if an invisible string joined us together.  This was the third time the dog was in my dream in the past 3 days.  I usually don’t pay attention to my dreams, but when something keeps surfacing, I take notice and pray for the Holy Spirit to help me decipher what it means.
I also dreamt of being on a boat and then being lowered down from the boat and walking through a forest of fir trees. The next day I was in the forest again, only it was winter and the trees were covered with a blanket of snow.
White.  White is the symbol of purity, but has several other meanings as well.  The dog was white.  The forest was white.  There’s a connection.  All of these dream symbols have direct meaning for what is going on in my life right now.  As I was navigating through a sad time of loss for my family, my dreams were another avenue God used to give me hope and comfort along with the prayers and support of friends and family.  The white dog was like an affectionate and comforting companion, the white forest a symbol of renewal and sanctification.  The interesting thing is, as soon as my dreams were interpreted, they stopped because their purpose had been fulfilled.
I will finally share with you the dream I had a year ago; it was so unlike anything I’ve ever dreamt before:
I was on a roller coaster ride and when the car reached the top of the track, I kept going up on my own and left the earth below.  As I rose above the trees, the sky darkened and the air grew cooler.  A light mist fell on my face as I passed through the clouds, then the sky was warm and light again. All I know was that I was ascending, and I could control how fast or slow, how high or low I wanted to go.  But I knew it wasn’t through my power that I could fly, it was God that enabled me to fly. It reminded me of when Peter walked on water; he did so because of his faith in Jesus, not in his own ability.  I would point to steer but it was ultimately God who propelled me this way or that. He brought me higher and higher until finally I reached a special place.  I had stopped ascending now; I was peacefully floating through the atmosphere as if I were in outer space.  Time didn’t exist in this secret place and I was being held and embraced by the warmth of God’s love.  Words can’t even explain…  I don’t remember the details of what I saw because I was closing my eyes.  When I opened my eyes again I was a few feet from the earth and placed gently down.

I encourage you to ask God to communicate with you in a special way as He did me.  Perhaps there has been something coming up in your dreams that needs to be addressed?  May you receive comfort, confirmation, encouragement or understanding.  May He use your dreams to give you a message that only you can understand and that He may be glorified through it all.
