He Restores My Soul

Eagle Wings

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

This verse and image were inspired by a simple prayer.  “God, I’m feeling weak.  I need you to strengthen me.  Amen.”

God’s promise to us is that if we seek Him, and wait on Him, He will completely restore us.  And I definitely needed restoration; the beginning of this week found me completely drained physically.  I don’t have any explanation as to why I was so zapped of strength.  Oddly, I’ve been getting enough sleep, eating well, and haven’t been doing anything more physically demanding than my usual exercise routine.  But sometimes it hits me out of the blue.  Sometimes it’s a plain old attack from the enemy, and other times it’s just some weird anomaly.  Does this happen to you?

So I started Googling.  I found a sundry of different reasons for unexplainable physical exhaustion:  hidden ulcers, thyroid issues, diabetes, heart disease, possible parasites, lack of iron and tonsil stones.  So I prayed.  I prayed against any form of spiritual attack, and I prayed for healing.  That’s when I remembered Isaiah 40:31.  It’s amazing how God will bring a verse to mind at just the right time.  For me, I remember better when I have a picture in mind; and a beautiful eagle soaring, peaceful, strong, and courageous is what inspired me to draw this eagle in my Bible.

Secondly, I did my part in taking care of myself physically:  I made sure I was getting more than enough sleep and cut back on my exercise so that my body could rest. When that didn’t help, I thought,  “Iron.  It’s got to be the iron.”  I needed to either take an iron supplement or eat some red meat.  I did both and it actually helped me immensely.

But the light wasn’t green just yet.  I was having trouble focusing and my sleep was troubled.  I was having stress dreams.  In my dream I was lost and confused and couldn’t find my way to a certain place.  Granted the scenery was beautiful, but I was still lost.  The next night I dreamt that I had to take some kind of test and do certain tasks before time ran out.  I woke up exhausted because I was trying to solve things in my dream.

So it’s been a weird battle this week, but I kept praying and trusting in God’s promise that He will restore my soul, and He did.  I feel 100% better today.  I feel physically strong again. I’m able to focus and have gained strength back mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well.  I was able to spend time with the Lord in prayer and with my Bible art, and I’m now completely refreshed, recharged and ready to go.  The Lord is good; He answers our prayers.  If He did it for me, He will certainly do it for you.

I just want to make this clear:  this story is in no way minimizing chronic illness. I realize that some are going through extremely painful circumstances.  I have no answer for that except for the fact that the Lord is still good even when we go through the storm.  We make a choice to trust Him even when we don’t understand.  Yes, easier said than done.  But we trust anyway because He is faithful to bring us through.  And if in our physical bodies we don’t “rise up with eagle’s wings” here on earth, then His promise will be fulfilled in the life to come.  Again, here’s God’s promise to us; His promise to you personally:

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
